From the Archives (1997): Paige’s Close Encounter

A FoxTrot storyline from 1997…

FoxTrot by Bill Amend April 7, 1997 - World UFO Day - Jason: Where have YOU been? Paige: Outside. I wanted to see this comet that everyone's talking about. Jason: Did you see it? It's pretty awesome, huh? Paige: Yeah. I didn't realize it would have such a bright green glow. Jason: Uh... bright green glow? Paige: It was pretty wild the way it zoomed in real fast, came to a dead stop for a few seconds, then shot up into space, it was a lot cooler than I thought it'd be. Jason: AAAA! Paige, that wasn't a comet you saw! Paige: Oh, phooey. You mean I've got to go back out there? It's freezing.

FoxTrot by Bill Amend April 8, 1997 - World UFO Day - Jason: Paige, I'm telling you, you saw a UFO tonight! Paige: Uh huh, right. Jason: You did! No airplane or helicopter can do what you just described! The instantaneous acceleration/deceleration... the way it hovered and then shot straight up... Paige: Jason, I'm sure there's a logical explanation. Jason: Aliens can be logical! Just look at the vulcans! Paige: I think that if advanced beings were visiting Earth, we'd know it be their laughter.

FoxTrot by Bill Amend April 9, 1997 - World UFO Day - Jason: Paige, admit! You saw a UFO! Paige: Jason, will you give it a rest?! Jason: I've read every book, seen every TV show, memorized every rumor on the subject! I know what I'm talking about! You've had a close encounter! You've got to admit it! You've GOT TO! Paige: Why? Jason: Well, see, in all the excitement, I kinda made a few phone calls. Paige: What sort of phone calls? Andy or Roger: What's with all the news vans pulling up out front?

FoxTrot by Bill Amend April 10, 1997 - World UFO Day - Jason: Let me check your watch. Paige: What for? Jason: To see if you experienced any temporal anomalies during your alien encounter. Paige: "Alien encounter"?! I saw a stupid green light! Jason: A-ha! Just as I suspected! Your watch is two minutes ahead of mine! Do you know what that means?! Paige: That your Taco Bell "Boba Fett" wrist watch runs slightly slower than my Timex? Jason: No, it means now we've got a smoking gun! I'm calling Pierre Salinger. Paige: Sometimes I wish aliens would come and abduct me.

FoxTrot by Bill Amend April 12, 1997 - World UFO Day - Paige: Jason, I really don't think I saw a UFO. Jason: Why won't you just admit it? Paige: What's it matter to you, anyway? Jason: Paige, if you saw a real UFO, it would validate like nothing else ever has my faith that we are not alone in the universe, that extraterrestrial life exists, and that someday I, too, might get to visit other worlds. It's my dream. Plus, these kids I play D&D with will pay me a dollar each to meet you. Paige: I definitely didn't see a UFO. Jason: It's the military. They told you not to say anything, right?
